Abstract

Hajj and Umrah, as forms of large-scale international mass worship, present significant health risks, particularly for elderly pilgrims and individuals with chronic diseases. As the world’s largest contributor of pilgrims, Indonesia faces complex health challenges, especially due to the high prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular conditions. These circumstances necessitate more comprehensive, integrated, and data-driven health management strategies. This scoping review aims to systematically explore the utilization of big data technology in improving chronic disease management and strengthening the health resilience of Indonesian pilgrims during the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage. The review was conducted using the methodological framework of Arksey and O’Malley and reported in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A systematic literature search identified several relevant studies addressing the application of big data in pilgrim health systems. The findings reveal major challenges, including fragmented health information systems, limited use of predictive analytics, and gaps in longitudinal data analysis and ethical governance of health data. It is concluded that big data has substantial transformative potential in enhancing the quality of healthcare services and health protection for pilgrims. Therefore, future efforts should focus on integrating national electronic medical record systems such as SatuSehat, strengthening ethical frameworks, and enhancing cross-sectoral collaboration to optimally safeguard the health of Indonesian pilgrims during the pilgrimage.
